The Open is coming...

We are over halfway through December and the CrossFit Open is about 10 weeks away and the time to start ramping up for it is now! Everything we have worked on all year is 10 weeks away from coming to fruition.

The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition. Workouts are released on Thursday evenings and participants have until Monday evening to submit scores. FCCF will be hosting each workout every Friday night begining at 4pm. The first workout takes place on February 24th.

For some of us this will be the first oppurtunity to participate in the great test of fitness that is the CrossFit Open, and for others the test will be how much improvement has taken place from last year. I highly encourage all the members of FCCF to participate in this grueling 5-week challenge!

What is the Gameplan?

I typically consider the months of April-December the "Off-Season of CrossFit." It is a time to get stronger, build overall capacity, and tackle weaknesses. Begining in January we will have a primary focus of peaking for the CrossFit Open and performing well on those Friday workouts. There will be a slight shift in the type of workouts we will be doing, but the overall goal will still be General Physical Preparedness.

Starting January 6th. and every Friday leading up to the CF Open we will be re-testing old CF Open workouts. This will give everyone an oppurtunity to learn how to both perform and prepare themselves for a grueling end of the week workout. Much like NFL Football players gear themselves up with pre-season games, the next 10 weeks will give all of us a chance to learn a little more about our mental and physical preparation for the "Sport of Fitness." The importance of eating right, getting enough sleep, and taking care of your body will be at a high for the year.

Find a weakness, Find a Coach, and ATTACK!!!

One of the great benefits of the CF Open for me has been the inspiration that comes from knowing I am going to be tested on something; so I had better become as effecient in a movement as I possibly can be. Just because I can do HSPUs or chest to bar pull-ups does not mean I will take them for granted and not try to improve on them. I highly encourage everyone to set goals for the next two months and try to improve on two things.

Here are mine!

2017 Open Goals:
1.) 15x Unbroken Muscle-Ups
2.) 10ft Handstand Walk

How's that for accountability? Now everyone that reads this can call me out if I am not working towards the two listed above.

Feel Free to comment below with what your two biggest goals will be over the next two months!
